Consequently, what has also gotten cut out from our diets are Essential fats, especially Omega-3 fatty acids.

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) viz. Omega-3 and Omega-6 cannot be produced by our body and hence, they have to be provided through our diet only.

Vitrovea offers you Omega 3 products to help meet your daily requirements. Get your choice of omega-3's sourced from pure, fresh and pristine natural sources designed to cater to all age groups. Choose a suitable strength that fulfills your health needs today.

In our current dietary pattern, we consume plenty of Omega-6 fatty acids mainly through various refined vegetable cooking oils. But it is the Omega-3 fatty acids that are missing in our diets.

As a nutrient, Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for most body functions. More than 27000 published studies have shown that the Omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are important for heart health, cholesterol health, maintenance of blood lipids and blood pressure, brain health, cognitive development, eye health, joint health, cellular defense and immunity.

Green Foods

Superfoods are foods that have a very high nutritional density. This means that they provide a substantial amount of nutrients and very few calories. They contain a high volume of minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Antioxidants are natural molecules that occur in certain foods. They help neutralize free radicals in our bodies. Free radicals are natural byproducts of energy production that can cause great damage on the body.

Why superfoods?

The body cannot possibly get every nutrient it needs from a single food. As a result, a person needs to consume a variety of nutrient-rich foods throughout the day. The advantage of adding superfoods to your diet is that since they often have more nutrients per gram (a.k.a nutrient density), you get more nutrients per bite than you would eating any other healthy food.
Furthermore, the antioxidants in superfoods (ORAC) are known to help shield organs from cell damage and help the body perform its instinctive/biological disease-fighting functions more effectively.

How are they beneficial for our health?

Superfoods contain a variety of nutrients, such as antioxidants, which are thought to ward off cancer. They also have healthy fats, thought to prevent heart disease; fiber, thought to prevent diabetes and digestive problems; and phytochemicals — the chemicals in plants responsible for deep colors and smells, which can have numerous health benefits.
Vitrovea® makes it easy to achieve your daily nutrition needs with our range of customized superfood combinations that can provide overall nutritional nourishment and help prevent deficiencies.

Vitamins & Minerals

Vitamins and Minerals are essential micronutrients which although only required by the body in small amounts, play a vital role in body in variety of metabolic processes. They keep us healthy and help our bodies function in numerous ways.

Vitamins and Minerals are not produced by our body, so we need to meet the body's requirement of these nutrients from the food we eat.

What are Vitamins?

Vitamins are organic substances that are generally classified as either Fat Soluble or Water Soluble.

Different vitamins serve different purposes to the way our body functions. There are 13 vitamins in total and 8 of these come from the B-group of vitamins

Water-Soluble Vitamins:

  • Water-soluble vitamins are packed into the watery portions of the foods you eat. They are absorbed directly into the bloodstream as food is broken down during digestion or as a supplement dissolve.
  • Because much of your body consists of water, many of the water-soluble vitamins circulate easily in your body.
  • Vitamin C and the B-complex vitamins, such as Biotin (vitamin B7), Folic acid (folate, vitamin B9), Niacin (vitamin B3), Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), Riboflavin (vitamin B2), Thiamine (vitamin B1), Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12 and Folate must dissolve in water before they can be absorbed by the body, and therefore cannot be stored.
  • Kidneys continuously regulate levels of water-soluble vitamins, any water-soluble vitamins unused by the body is primarily lost through urine.

Role of Water Soluble vitamins in Body :

Although water-soluble vitamins have many tasks in the body, one of the most important is helping to free the energy found in the food you eat. Others help keep tissues healthy. Here are some examples of how different vitamins help you maintain health:

  • Release energy. Several B vitamins are key components of certain coenzymes (molecules that aid enzymes) that help release energy from food.
  • Produce energy. Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, and Biotin engage in energy production.
  • Build proteins and cells. Vitamins B6, B12, and Folic acid metabolize amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) and help cells multiply.
  • Make collagen. One of many roles played by vitamin C is to help make collagen, which knits together wounds, supports blood vessel walls, and forms a base for teeth and bones.

Fat-soluble vitamins:

  • Fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K gain entry to the blood via lymph channels in the intestinal wall. Many fat-soluble vitamins travel through the body only under escort by proteins that act as carriers.
  • These vitamins are used throughout the body, but excesses are stored in the liver and fat tissues.
  • As additional amounts of these vitamins are needed, your body taps into the reserves, releasing them into the bloodstream from the liver.
Role of Fat-Soluble vitamins in body:

Together this vitamin quartet helps keep your eyes, skin, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and nervous system in good repair.

Here are some of the other essential roles these vitamins play:

  • Build bones. Bone formation would be impossible without vitamins A, D, and K.
  • Protect vision. Vitamin A also helps keep cells healthy and protects your vision.
  • Interact favourably. Without Vitamin E, your body would have difficulty absorbing and storing vitamin A.
  • Protect the body. Vitamin E also acts as an antioxidant (a compound that helps protect the body against damage from unstable molecules).

What are Minerals?

Minerals are inorganic elements present in soil and water, which are absorbed by plants or consumed by animals.

Minerals like with calcium, sodium, and potassium, there is a range of other minerals, including trace minerals (e.g. Copper, Iodine, And Zinc) needed in very small amounts.

Trace minerals carry out a diverse set of tasks. Here are a few examples:

  • Iron is best known for ferrying oxygen throughout the body.
  • Fluoride strengthens bones and wards off tooth decay.
  • Zinc helps blood clot, is essential for taste and smell, and bolsters the immune response.
  • Copper helps form several enzymes, one of which assists with iron metabolism and the creation of haemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood.

The other trace minerals perform equally vital jobs, such as helping to block damage to body cells and forming parts of key enzymes or enhancing their activity.

The difference between Vitamins and Minerals.

Although they are all considered Micronutrients, Vitamins and Minerals differ in basic ways. Vitamins are organic and can be broken down by heat, air, or acid.

Minerals are inorganic and hold on to their chemical structure.

So why does this matter?

It means the minerals in soil and water easily find their way into your body through the plants, fish, animals, and fluids you consume. But it is tougher to shuttle vitamins from food and other sources into your body because cooking, storage, and simple exposure to air can inactivate these more fragile compounds. Due to which body’s requirement of Vitamins is not met, if not supplemented can results in deficiency of these nutrients.

How Vitamins And Minerals Benefits Your Health?

Vitamin D: - Vitamin D is involved in Calcium absorption (promoting healthy bones and teeth), Immune function, brain, nervous system health, protects bone, muscle and Heart health and regulates insulin levels and supports diabetes management.

Vitamin C: - Vitamin C also known as ascorbic acid is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. It's involved in many body functions, including formation of collagen, absorption of iron, the proper functioning of the immune system thereby boosting immunity, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.

Vitamin K: - Vitamin K plays a role in blood clotting, bone metabolism, and regulating blood calcium levels.

Vitamin E: - Vitamin E is a nutrient that's important to vision, reproduction, and the health of your blood, brain and skin. Vitamin E also has antioxidant properties.

Vitamin A: - Vitamin A is important for normal vision, the immune system, and reproduction. Vitamin A also helps the heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs work properly.

B complex vitamins:- B complex helps plays an important role in metabolic process which helps given you energy, supports brain health, essential role in red blood cell formation, helps with the optimal function of the digestive and nervous systems, and boosts skin & hair health, improves memory, helps in production of certain hormones and improves mood.

Zinc: - Zinc may effectively reduce inflammation, boost immune health, reduce your risk of age-related diseases, speeds up wound healing, helps in metabolic activity and improve acne.

Calcium: - Calcium is a mineral most often associated with healthy bones and teeth, although it also plays an important role in blood clotting, helping muscles to contract, and regulating normal heart rhythms and nerve functions.

Magnesium: - Magnesium helps keep blood pressure normal, bones strong, and the heart rhythm steady.

Phosphorous: - Phosphorus play an important role is in the formation of bones and teeth. It plays an important role in how the body uses carbohydrates and fats. It is also needed for the body to make protein for the growth, maintenance, and repair of cells and tissues.

Selenium:- Selenium plays a key role in maintaining thyroid hormone metabolism, DNA synthesis, boosts immune system, protects cells and tissues from oxidative stress, gives relief from arthritis, gout and eczema.

Although it is recommended to meet daily micronutrient requirement through regular diet. However, nutrient deficient foods, pollution and stressful lifestyle can make it difficult to meet these requirements.

A Vitamin and Mineral Supplement can therefore form a crucial part of diet for all adults so as to help meet them their daily essential micronutrient requirements. Athletes and physically active individuals have higher requirements of Vitamins and Minerals and are at risk of developing a deficiency, which may hamper their performance.

"Neulife Vitrovea makes it easy to achieve your daily micronutrient needs with custom formulated products of vitamin and mineral combinations that can provide an overall nutrition insurance and help prevent age specific deficiency conditions."

Prebiotics & Probiotics

Probiotics are live non-pathogenic microorganisms when ingested in sufficient quantities to improve microbial balance, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract, they consist of Saccharomyces boulardii yeast or lactic acid bacteria, such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species, and are regulated as dietary supplements and foods.

What are Prebiotics:-

Prebiotics are compounds in food or a form of dietary fiber that induce the growth or activity of beneficial microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi to produce nutrients for your colon cells, which leads to a healthier digestive system. Some of these nutrients include short-chain fatty acids like butyrate, acetate, and propionate. The most common example is in the gastrointestinal tract, where prebiotics can alter the composition of organisms in the gut microbiome, this makes your digestive system work better.

History of Prebiotics and probiotics:-

In 1995, Glenn Gibson and Marcel Roberfroid introduced the prebiotic concept.

Metchnikoff tried first to find out the possible effect of these microbes on human health.

Metchnikoff stated that “the dependence of the intestinal microbes on the food makes it possible to adopt measures to modify the flora in our bodies and to replace the harmful microbes by useful microbes.”

Metchnikoff considered the lactobacilli as probiotics (“pro-bios,” conducive to life of the host as opposed to antibiotics); probiotics could have a positive influence on health and prevent aging

Mechanisms of Prebiotics: -

Fermentation is the main mechanism of action by which prebiotics are used by beneficial bacteria in the colon. Both Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus are bacterial populations which use saccharolytic metabolism to break down substrates.

The metabolites of prebiotic fermentation also show anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory capabilities, suggesting an interesting role in the treatment of several pathological conditions.

Mechanisms of Probiotics: -

Probiotics exert their beneficial effects through various mechanisms, including lowering intestinal pH, decreasing colonization and invasion by pathogenic organisms, and modifying the host immune response. Probiotic benefits associated with one species or strain do not necessarily hold true for others.

Probiotics are a combination of live beneficial bacteria and/or yeasts that naturally live in your body. Good bacteria work to fight off the bad bacteria and restore the balance within your body, making you feel better. Good bacteria keeps you healthy by supporting your gut, immune function and controlling inflammation.

What are the most common types of prebiotics and probiotics ?

The most studied prebiotics

  • Galacto-oligosaccharide and
  • short- and long-chain fructans (Fructo-oligosaccharides and inulin)

Though there are many types of bacteria that can be considered probiotics, there are two specific types of bacteria that are common probiotics

  • Lactobacillus.
  • Bifidobacterium.

Difference between Prebiotic and Probiotics:-

Both prebiotics and probiotics are good for your gut, but they help in different ways.

Prebiotics are a source of food for your gut’s healthy bacteria. They are carbs your body cannot digest. So, they go to your lower digestive tract, where they act like food to help the healthy bacteria grow.

Probiotics are live yeasts and good bacteria that live in your body and are good for your digestive system.

Eating balanced amounts of both probiotics and prebiotics can help ensure that you have the right balance of these bacteria to keep your gut microbiota healthy.

The gut bacteria, collectively referred to as the gut flora, or gut microbiota, perform many important functions in the body.

How pre and probiotics benefit you?

☞ Improves gut :-

Lactobacilli and Bifidobacterium are prominent probiotics of the intestine and they may help restore healthy gut flora by changing the composition of your gut bacteria or the metabolic activity of existing bacteria. The good bacteria crowd out the bad by limiting the growth and colony formation of harmful bacteria.

This aids in efficient digestion, absorption of nutrients preventing inflammation and other gut issues like bloating acidity, constipation etc

☞ Boosts immune system:-

Probiotics help improve immunity by stimulating the activity of immune cells which regulates immune responses by balancing pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines

☞ Prevents metabolic diseases:-

Metabolic diseases like heart issues, diabetes, thyroid, PCOD/PCOS, diabetic, the main the root cause of all these problems is the gut health. When there is an improved gut health, these issues can be prevented.

☞ Improved absorption of nutrients:-

Optimal digestion by favourable gut floura helps in efficient absorption of nutrients.

☞Beneficial for Arthritis:-

Probiotics reduces inflammation with the healthy gut which is beneficial for arthritis preventing them from joint pains.

☞ Supports people suffering from IBS/ (Irritable bowel syndrome ) / GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease):-

Dysbiotic intestinal microbiota is the major cause of inflammatory bowel disease/GERD and hence there has been pioneering research in developing new treatments which target the gut microflora. Prebiotics improve the gut mucosal barrier and modulate the microflora, and hence help in the prevention of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) & GERD. It has been postulated that prebiotics nourish the bowel wall, through the production of SCFAs, and are thus beneficial in Crohn's disease.

☞ Helps reduce cholesterol:-

Prebiotics are mainly attributed to the increased production of short-chain fatty acids . The SCFAs generated are absorbed in the portal vein and metabolized by the liver, resulting in the lowering of blood pressure.

Prebiotics are also involved in the absorption of fats and phospholipids in the lower intestine. This binding effect of prebiotics also leads to decreased levels of cholesterol. A decreased level of total cholesterol increases the clearance of LDL cholesterol and potentially reduces blood pressure.

☞ Helps prevent obesity:-

Gut microbiota is involved in the development of low-grade inflammation which disrupts the metabolism of glucose and the absorption of fats. These disruptions are distinctive features of obesity. Prebiotics improve the gut barrier integrity and reduce intestinal low-grade inflammation, thus ameliorating metabolic alterations and promoting weight loss.

Studies have linked prebiotics with an increased secretion of satiety promoting peptides - glucagon and a decreased production of ghrelin, a peptide which promotes appetite and adiposity. These combined effects of prebiotics may have therapeutic potential for obesity.

☞ Prevents constipation:-

Intestinal dysbiosis is a major cause of constipation. By stimulating the growth of beneficial bacteria, prebiotics like bifidobacteria act as a viable option in relieving constipation. SCFA production by these bacteria play a pivotal role in modulation of intestinal motility by exerting a trophic effect on the epithelial cells. This ultimately leads to increased blood flow in the region and increased intestinal motility.
